About Alex Baum
Alex serves as the Director of Advocacy, Data, and Learning at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. In his role, Alex manages the Community Foundation’s data, research, and knowledge-sharing work for the organization’s seven-county region. This included conducting a three-year Immigration Community Assessment that elevated the priorities of immigrant communities and identified opportunities to further support immigrant families. Alex now facilitates the Better Together Committee, a collaboration of over 70 local stakeholders, focused on addressing systemic challenges faced by immigrant populations such as medical interpretation and chronic absenteeism. Alex also leads Project HOPE, an economic mobility collaborative, addressing issues such as capacity building in Dubuque’s underserved populations, to helping those communities advocate effectively for their own priorities. He also manages the Community Foundation’s work on brain health, restorative justice, and advocacy.

Prior to joining the Community Foundation, Alex worked for over a decade as a policy and program specialist in areas ranging from international development to child well-being. Alex received his undergraduate degree from Carleton College and holds a master’s degree in international relations from Yale University.
